Geography
The land of Oman lies in the region of Middle East on the southeastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula with the total area of 309,500 sq km together with the seaside islets of Masirah, Halanyat and Salama, plus Musandam and Madha, which are completely bounded by the United Arab Emirates. Oman is bordered by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the northwest, the Republic of Yemen towards the southwest and the United Arab Emirates towards the north. Oman has the shoreline of 2,092 km on the Gulf, the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. Oman’s highest point is Jabal Akhdar which reaches 9,776 ft.
Climate
The climate of Oman can be described as subtropical arid, hot desert weather with low annual rainfall. In the internal areas, the temperatures change between maximum and minimum. The summer season between the months of May and August is extremely hot even in the seaside areas. Temperature can frequently reach over 40 °C. Temperatures in the inland areas reach to the extreme. The best time to explore Oman is in winter, between the months of December and March. During this time temperature is tolerable which sometimes reaches 25 °C while the minimum temperature is around 13 °C. The rate of rainfall is very low in Oman throughout the year through some areas experienced a higher level of rainfall. Between the months of June and September, Salalah in the Dhofar region experiences the monsoon spell.
